Our garden design studio specializes in thoughtful, small-scale landscapes throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Based in Berkeley, we create gardens that are rooted in place and designed to grow more beautiful with time.

We think of gardens as the threshold between home and the wider landscape.  A place that softens the boundary between the two. They provide habitat not only for the people who tend them, but also for birds, pollinators, insects, and the many organisms that sustain healthy soil. Every planting is considered for its ecological role as much as its beauty.

Our work draws inspiration from California’s native plant communities while remaining rooted in an old-world Mediterranean sensibility. Native trees mingle with fruit trees. Wildflowers weave through woody herbs and ornamental grasses. Moss rock, weathered timber, and natural materials create spaces that feel as though they have settled gently into the landscape over time.

We strive to create gardens that are dynamic, naturalistic, romantic, and quietly abundant.  Places that invite wandering, seasonal change, and a sense of belonging.  

Garden design, consultation, installation, and maintenance services are available. We also provide ongoing care for established gardens, whether or not they were originally designed by our studio.
